New Public Domain Mark19 Oct 2010
Europeana is the first adopter of the new Public Domain Mark launched by Creative Commons. Thanks to the mark, works free of known copyright restrictions are labeled in a way that clearly communicates that status to the public.
This enables public domain works to be more easily retrieved on the Internet. The mark also helps teachers, students, artists and scientists to identify free to re-use material.
From now on, on the Europeana portal, works free of known copyright will hold the Public Domain Mark. It will play an important infrastructural role in the European Union's efforts to ensure that all works shared online are marked with rights' information.
